Curtis is the daughter of Carmencita Ojales, a Filipina originally from Bolinao Pangasinan, and James Ernest Curtis Smith who is an Australian lawyer. She was born at Yarrawonga within Victoria, Australia. Her father James Ernest Curtis-Smith got married to Ojales back in 1982. Jasmine the younger sister works as an actress. From their father's perspective, they were half-sisters with a name Clare who died in 2007 of a heart disease when she was the age of four months.
